We will REACH ‘difficult to access’ areas on nuclear sites

The REACH project is a partnership between Viridian Consultants, Createc and UKAEA RACE

We will REACH ‘difficult to access’ areas on nuclear sites It is funded through Innovate UK, designed to develop nuclear characterisation tools capable of remotely accessing confined spaces. Our laser sampling tool, ViridiScope, is being adapted to fire sideways and reduced in size to permit it to be deployed in pipes and voids as small as 10 cm in diameter and at 40 m distance from the control electronics. Createc are miniaturising their existing N-Visage scanner to pass through a standard 10cm nuclear cell penetration. There are many...

Viridian is training nuclear site personnel to operate ViridiScope

Two teams have visited our workshop for a day’s training

Viridian is training nuclear site personnel to operate ViridiScope Previous deployments of ViridiScope on nuclear sites have been carried out by engineers from Viridian Consultants who are experts in the operation of the laser sampler and in situ radiometric equipment. Now Viridian is passing on its expertise to nuclear site engineers who will be implementing their own characterisation programme with ViridiScope.  Our successful trainees left with competency statements which will ensure they operate the equipment safely and maintain our very high...

Viridian Consultants wins laser sampling contract from Magnox

Viridian Consultants has been awarded a contract from Magnox Ltd for the hire of ViridiScope, an innovative tool for nuclear characterisation

Viridian Consultants wins laser sampling contract from Magnox The laser sampler will be used at the Trawsfynydd decommissioning power station for the collection of material as part of their ongoing nuclear characterisation programme. In addition to the sampling tool, the contract includes radiometric counting equipment for in situ measurement of radioactivity in the material collected. Magnox staff will be trained to operate ViridiScope at Viridian’s workshop, just 30 miles away in Corwen. It is not the first time that ViridiScope has been...

Viridian pitches at Nuclear Technology Showcase

Viridian exhibited at the KTN Nuclear Innovation eXchange (NUiX) Launch & Technology Showcase in Manchester this week.

Viridian pitches at Nuclear Technology Showcase Our three minute pitch about the ViridiScan R&D project and the First of a Kind deployment of ViridiScope created a great deal of interest and we were networking all day. The event was attended by well over a hundred participants eager to hear about the KTN’s new challenges under ‘Nuclear Innovation Exchange’. We were able to talk to Wood, Nuvia and Sellafield about their technical challenges but also made some new contacts which will result in interesting future collaborations.

Viridian becomes member of Wales Nuclear Forum

We were delighted to receive our official membership certificate from Wales Nuclear Forum this week.

Viridian becomes member of Wales Nuclear Forum Viridian has had a workshop in North Wales for many years now; it’s where Technical Director John Williams is based. To begin with it was a small unit for John to develop prototype tools. In 2017 he moved into larger premises as the work expanded and we employed engineers to assist John in constructing our nuclear characterisation tools. We now have space to host visitors from the nuclear sector to see demonstrations of our tools - and sample refreshments delivered by our neighbouring...
