Viridian Consultants has been awarded a contract from Magnox Ltd for the hire of ViridiScope, an innovative tool for nuclear characterisation
The laser sampler will be used at the Trawsfynydd decommissioning power station for the collection of material as part of their ongoing nuclear characterisation programme. In addition to the sampling tool, the contract includes radiometric counting equipment for in situ measurement of radioactivity in the material collected. Magnox staff will be trained to operate ViridiScope at Viridian’s workshop, just 30 miles away in Corwen. It is not the first time that ViridiScope has been operated on site – it was successfully deployed at Trawsfynydd by Viridian last year in a million pound “First of a Kind” deployment project, supported by the government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and administered by Innovate UK.
